Move Closer: Meeting Mr. Kim

Wonder if you realize this: once you put it out to the world that you are fascinated, passionate or in love with XYZ, your friends will be sending you all kinds of information and links about XYZ. For the new age people, they will say you attract the things you are trying to attract.

So yes, after I tell my friends about my new love Korea, I received an email from Sister C. about "Meeting Mr. Kim".

I wish it was a real Mr. Kim, but no, it is a book entitled " Meeting Mr Kim: Or How I Went to Korea and Learned to Love Kimchi" by Jennifer Barclay.

I searched the internet and found these reviews:

'She is excellent at painting word portraits of the people she meets' --suite101.com, September 11, 2008

`Meeting Mr Kim succeeds where a lot of travel books have failed: it is entertaining, endearing and educational.' --www.scmp.com, 27 November 2008

'Barclay's writing is fresh and lively... it is an entertaining and interesting account.' --PS News (Australia) March 2009

`a decent starting point for anyone thinking of visiting or wanting to get an insight into travelling South Korea.' --Real Travel Magazine, November 2008

`a warm and funny journey into a country that's foreign to many... an invaluable primer on Korea.' --Blue Wings (Finnair magazine) January 2009

Ummm.. sounds like a fun book to read. I thought it would be a great book to read before I made my maiden trip to Korea, where it will then make a good gift for my Korean friends.

I scour the bookshops, new and second hand, for this elusive book. No stock. One second hand book shop owner asked, “ Mr. Kim? You mean Mr. Kim Jong Il?”

I went on Amazon.com, and was delighted to find a copy on their UK site. I happily ordered it, but alas…they will not ship it, for some reasons that I do not understand.

I have yet to lay my hands on this elusive book. Please, will someone get this book for me as my next birthday present? I promise to circulate it after I read it.
